trying to record flashes of lighting

The thunderstorm we had on Friday. I was at home, listening to the rain pound on the roof and the thunder growling ominously at intervals, and waiting for the quick flare of lightning. Super fast. Over almost before you see it. Then more thunder. I tried to capture the flashes of lighting through my skylight, but it was difficult to get it on camera. Again, it seems that these momentary flickers don't register well on a device which has such different limitations compared to the human eye. I like the way lightning, like dust, occupies the threshold of the visible, in relation to normal vision. Rather than dust, which is possibly the smallest thing visible to the naked eye, perhaps lightning is the quickest. All these different limits that circumscribe our experience of the world though our senses are so interesting: speed, scale, distance, etc. A kind of frontier.
